Hello I started the training yesterday. From module 1 to 4, I passed the assessments very quickly. But in module 5, I was quite stuck. I tried three times on the assessment 5, but each time failed. I feel quite frustrated. I have one question to ask. It is a general one. Please do me a favor and help me out. My question is: in general, in what degree can a moderator decide to allow the username as it is. The "degree" here, I mean as a moderator, we'll reject immediately the username if it includes some hidden meaning of profanity/vulgar/sexual, which is known and very evident to everyone. But if the meaning hidden is not well known to everyone but only to a few people, but it is vulgar/sexual and only to those people. Do we need to reject it anyway? I do a lot of research on usernames, and I was quite astonished by the ways that some users hide the vulgar meaning in their usernames. Sometimes it is quite unknown to general public, even to me if I didn't do the research on the internet... in that case, do we need to allow it or not? So is my question safe? It's just a question I think a lot during the training. So anyone can help me please? Thanks in advance! |

Hi Chen, it's Lisa from Moderation Gateway. In response to your question and for the purposes of the assessment please make sure you are referring as closely to the guidelines as you can. This is what you must refer to in order to make the correct moderation decisions. As a moderator you will also need to think about the main users of the website - their age being very important. For example, if the website was aimed at children then user names with any type of hidden vulgar/sexual content should be removed. I agree that it can be quite unbelievable how meanings and messages can be hidden in a user name and children and teenagers can be especially good at hiding these messages. Protecting their PII is of utmost importance and a great job done by mods. I wish you all the best of luck with your next attempt at the assessment and remember you can always send an email to support@moderationgateway.com as well. Thanks : ![]() Lisa |

Hey team, Could you provide more information on such case: if our client is live speaking on TV and meanwhile he is disliked by many people and live comments get really bad on social media platforms, what our actions would be? Thanks |

Hi Ruta, It is good to hear from you :) In answer to your question it is quite difficult to provide you with an absolute answer on this situation as we know little about the details. One piece of advice we can give is that the user-generated content should still be in line with your site's guidelines of what is acceptable and what is not. The live element obviously offers a challenge and where possible you should use post moderation methods if you feel that the content is very inappropriate. Also ensure that your guidelines for comments on the social media platform are highly visible to your audience so that they are aware of the consequences etc. of posting comments. Ensure where possible that any word filter provision that the social media platform has is up-to-date so that automatic filtering can take place as well. We hope this is of some help to you as an overview measure of advice. Kind regards, The Team theteam@moderationgateway.com |
